ACID REFLUX 



FACTS:  Gastroesophageal Reflux  ( GER ) happens when your stomach content come back up into your esophagus also called (acid reflux). Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is the long-lasting  illness and a more serious form of the( GER ).

CAUSES AND SYMPTOMS

The most common symptom of gastroesophageal disease ( GERD) is heart burning, which is persistent. Also called acid REFLUX.GERD happens when your lower esophageal sphincter becomes weak or relaxes when it should not.

DIAGNOSIS

Your doctor will review your symptoms by taking medical history.If your heart burn or symptoms don't  improve by lifestyle changes and medications,then it is necessary to go for a test.

TREATMENT

Depending on the severity of the heartburn and other symptoms, treatment for gastro-esophageal-reflux disease ( GERD ) may include lifestyle changes, medicine or surgery if needed.

EATING HABIT, DIET, & NUTRITION.

By  changing diet, it helps acid reflux.
Food good for ( GERD )

1-VEGETABLES  
Green beans,broccoli,asparagus, cauliflower, leafy greens, potatoes, and cucumber. These vegetables are low in fat and they help reduce stomach acid.

2-GINGER  
Ginger has natural anti-inflammatory properties, and it is a natural treatment for heartburn.
you can add it into your meal or drink ginger tea to ease symptoms.

3-OATMEAL 
It is a breakfast favourite,  a whole grain and an excellent source of fibre. A diet high in fibre will help lower the risk of acid reflux. Other fibre  options include whole-grain bread and whole-grain rice.

4-NON CITRUS FRUIT 
It includes melons, bananas, apples and pears are less likely to trigger acid reflux symptoms.

5-LEAN MEATS AND SEAFOOD 

Such as chicken, turkey, fish and seafood are low fat and reduce acid reflux. Try them  grilled, broiled, baked or poached.

6-EGG WHITES.

Egg whites are good but yolks are high in fat which may trigger acid reflux.

7-HEALTHY FATS.
Source of healthy fats are avocados, wall nuts, flax seed, olive oil, sesame oil and sunflower oil.
Reduce intake of saturated fats, and trans fats and replace them with these healthier unsaturated fats.

AVOID FOOD

Fried food like French fries, fried chicken or meat, butter bakery products, full fat dairy products, creams, ice-creams, whole milk, salad dressings, cheese, desserts trigger GERD.
chocolates also increase acid reflux, caffeine products increases reflux, mint products also trigger acid reflux.

TREATMENT

Antacid are the first choice simple First line therapies are Ranitidine, Gaviscon,
Second line is Omeprazole, Esomeprazole.Lanzoprazole H2blockers and Prostglandins.
