IT HAPPENS SOME TIME

AS A DOCTOR HAVE YOU EVER REFUSE TO TREAT A PATIENT, WHY?
It was long time ago our Surgery was in karachi, we had so many Afghani patients who used to come to surgery. Once a man aged 35yr came in and asked me to talk to me in private, his mother was with him. The lady was in an Afghan outfit and looked between 50–60 years of age or older, she had so many wrinkles on her face.

The man was speaking Urdu but his accent was Pakhtoon (tribal language). He added Can you check up my mother, (I feel ashamed of her, how can I explain it to you? I have 4 kids). Then I transferred the lady into an examining room and I asked her, what can I do for you mama, she said check my tummy. I touched her and I was extremely shocked, after some manoeuvring I found out that she was approximately 5 months pregnant.
I asked her few questions about her pregnancy, she was only complained that she felt week otherwise she was fine. (Means there was nothing to worry about or I didn’t find any complications), at that time I had no children and I was trying to get pregnant and I was married since five years.

What, I realised that it is God’s will, who gives a-daughter, a-son, both, or none to anyone. No matter how young you are or how old you are!! The lady had so many wrinkles on her face being a doctor I was shocked to see that she was having a baby at this age, after I took the history of the family, she was the grandmother of 11 children.

I came out of the examination room and I told the guy that she is fine, an another shocking sentence, (he wanted to do, to terminate her pregnancy). I was speechless and I told him it is illegal to have an abortion in Pakistan. I totally refused him and make him realised that it might be life threatening for her, rather I wrote her some nutritional supplements to helped, in her pregnancy.
